Historical Museums in the Aarhus Region

The Viking Museum is a window to the Viking town of Aros. Some 1200 years ago the Vikings founded Aarhus – at the very same spot and level where The Viking Museum is situated in the basement underneath the Nordea Bank in the 'Skt. Clemens Torv' Square.

The Paper Museum is a living museum where handmade paper are still made and a knowledge center for paper making is situated today. Here, as a visitor, you can also try the magic by producing your own paper.

The culture-historical Museum Østjylland was founded in 1872, making it one of the oldest and biggest local museums in Denmark.

The Old Townhall is located in the middle of Ebeltoft. Everyone is welcome to visit the Townhall, which is a great time pocket to step into. The Townhall was built in 1789 and was in use until 1840.

At the Blicheregnens Museum you can experience a great exhibition about rural life in the 19th century, as well as discover the history of St. Blicher - the great poet, pastor and community debater.

Viborg Museum is arranging guided tours in Viborg. The museum is currently closed due to relocation. 

KØN - Gender Museum Denmark is a museum in Aarhus that puts gender and culture on the agenda. Explore the cultural history of gender, delve into the history of sex education and learn more about the importance of gender in society.

The Occupation Museum in Aarhus illustrates dramatic events as well as everyday life in Aarhus during the German occupation 1940 - 1945 in relation to the Danish Resistance Movement.

Djurslands Railway Museum is the largest Railway Museum in Jutland with artifacts from DSB and private railways.

The museum "Gudenådalens Museum" (Gudenå river valley museum) is situated in town Bjerringbro, about 25 km south from Viborg. It is the region's historical museum with a permanent exhibition on farming, handicrafts and the Viking Age, including the Mammen axe and rune stone park.

At Stenvad bog cultivation centre, Stenvad Mosebrug you sense the bog’s mystery, and the memories of working in the summer securing warmth inside for the winter can be relived.

The Craft Museum will be closed from 1 April 2025 and two years ahead. Exhibitions will be renovated and renewed. The museum will reopen in summer 2027 as HÅNDVÆRK.
