Hiking around Viborg is a spectacular experience. Here, you will see some of Denmark’s most breathtaking and diverse scenery – everything from vast moorlands, dramatic cliffs, green forests, the cool breeze across the inlet, to Hærvejen, where history is literally right at your feet.

Hiking along the Historic Trail Hærvejen by Viborg

Hærvejen is (perhaps) Denmark’s most well-known hiking trail. Stretching hundreds of kilometres through central Jutland, the popular trail contains numerous hiking and cycling routes suitable for short and longer distances.

Kongenshus Memorial Park

Kongenshus Memorial Park is one of Denmarks most beautiful and distinctive wildlife areas. The heath is a fascinating experience not only when the heather blossoms, but all year round.

Dollerup Hills in Central Jutland

Dollerup Bakker is a magnificent nature area in Central Jutland, 10 kilometres south of Viborg. The heather-clad hills are located by the village of Dollerup, and this is also where you'll find Hald Sø, one of Denmark's deepest lakes.

Himmerlandsstien in Viborg, bicycle and walking path

When the railway between Viborg and Løgstør was closed, the construction of the nature track, Himmelandsstien, was initiated along the 69 km long railway line. Today Himmerlandsstien is one of Denmark's longest nature tracks along a former railway line and makes for a great experience in beautiful nature.

Alhedestien, bicycle and walking path

The railway path between Viborg and Herning is also known as Alhedestien (cycle route no. 21) and is built on the disused Herning-Viborg railway line. The continuous trail system between Viborg and Herning is approximately 49 kilometres long and is great for hiking, cycling and horseback riding.

Ulbjerg Klint

The central point of a 200-hectare protected area is the 30 meter high cliff which offers a wonderful view over the Limfjord.

Undallslund Skov

The forests north of Viborg include Undallslund Skov, Skrikes Plantage and Neckelmanns Plantage.

Around Viborg Lakes - on foot and by bike

Experience the magnificent nature around the Viborg Lakes with a hike, run or bike ride around Nørresø and Søndersø. The full route is approximately 11 kilometres and offers beautiful views, green surroundings and tranquility close to the city. If you want a shorter trip, you can choose to just walk or cycle around one of the lakes.
