As its name indicates, the Lake District is home to a large number of lakes – some of which are among the cleanest in Denmark. The luxuriant landscape surrounding the lakes of the Lake District provides great conditions for flora and fauna.

Almindsø - A paradise for water lovers in the Lake District
Lake Almindsø near Silkeborg is one of Denmark’s cleanest lakes. There is no agriculture nearby or polluting drainage into the lake and it is a popular bathing lake with two large pools, Østre and Vestre (east and west), and several smaller bathing spots.

The Lake Slåensø
Slåensø is a lake located immediately south of Lake Borresø in Silkeborg Sønderskov wood. It is one of Denmark's cleanest lakes.

Schoubyes Lake
Schoubyes Sø is a lake located in the woods east of Silkeborg in the Lake District, relatively close to the main road going towards Aarhus.

Lyngsø, a city lake in the heart of Silkeborg
The lake Lyngsø is one of the beautiful lakes in and around Silkeborg, originating from an ice-formed depression from the Ice Age. Now you can enjoy the opportunity to swim and fish in this lovely lake.

The Lake Julsø by Silkeborg
Julsø is the largest out of the three Himmelbjerg-lakes near Silkeborg in Denmark, which also includes Borre Sø and Brassø.

Avnsø in Østerskov near Silkeborg
Avnsø is a small lake that is almost hidden in Østerskov near Silkeborg. It is possible to row directly into the lake from Brassø via Klüvers Kanal, a narrow canal that is now almost overgrown.

Brassø is part of the Silkeborg Lakes, through which the Gudenå River also flows. The lake offers excellent fishing opportunities where you can catch pike, perch and bream. As the lake is surrounded by forest, it is most convenient to fish from a boat.

Ørnsø - a natural gem in Silkeborg
Ørnsø is one of Silkeborg's most peaceful and scenic gems, beautifully situated in the Lake District Søhøjlandet. The lake is surrounded by forest and hilly terrain, and here you'll find undisturbed tranquillity, beautiful nature experiences and rich wildlife.

Bryrup Sea Bath at Bryrup Langsø near Silkeborg
Bryrup Søbad by Bryrup Langsø in the Lake District Søhøjlandet is a popular destination in the Silkeborg area. Here you can swim from the lake and follow the scenic walking trail around the lake with views of forests, hills and clear lake water.

Bølling Sø near Silkeborg
Bølling Sø is a recreated lake between Engesvang, Funder and Kragelund parishes in Central Jutland. The lake, which has a surface of 360 hectares, was recreated in 2004 - 2005 on the waterfront west of Silkeborg.

Sminge Sø near Silkeborg
The Lake Sminge Sø is beautifully located northeast of Silkeborg and is a true natural gem in the Lake District Søhøjlandet. The lake is part of the winding course of the Gudenåen river and offers tranquillity, rich wildlife and breathtaking landscapes. Here you can experience one of Denmark's finest bird areas with good chances of spotting kingfishers, herons and other rare species in the protected wetland.
