Churches in Aarhus

Aarhus Cathedral is an impressive landmark in the centre of Aarhus – Denmark's longest and one of the country's oldest cathedrals. Discover Gothic architecture, frescoes and a vibrant church interior.

The monastery here was set up by Dominican monks and was first mentioned in 1246 but was probly established in 1227. The Church of Our Lady now occupies the south wing of the relatively well preserved monastery buildings.

This modern church with its characteristic sixsided tower (32m) has a long history. It started out as a little chapel on Randersvej in Aarhus in 1895, and was enlarged and consercrated in 1913, dedicated to King Christian X.

The increasing number of inhabitants in Aarhus made new church-building activity necessary, and one of the results was the construction of The Langenæs Church in 1966.

St John’s Church in Trøjborg, Aarhus, was consecrated in 1905, making it Aarhus’s fourth church. Visit the church interior, the tower and the Biblical Garden, located close to the city centre.

This neo-Classical style church Sankt Lukas Kirke was built in 1926 and is chad with limestone from Fakse.

Sankt Mark's Church in Aarhus was built in 1935. The design of the church interior is inspired by the early Christian basilica, with a central nave raised above the side aisles.

St. Paul's Church in Aarhus was built between 1884 and 1887 and is centrally located at the end of one of the city's major shopping streets, M. P. Bruunsgade.
