A trip through Favrskov

In a hidden clearing in the beautiful landscape around Gudenåen near Vejerslev, you will see Høj Stene, one of the largest Iron Age burial monuments in Northern Europe.

You can walk along lovely brooks and through the protected Alling Ådal river valley and its moors and lakes, which are home to a rich selection of animal and plant species. There are wood-lands and meadows and vast farmlands, and of course the romantic baroque castle dating back to the 12th century, Clausholm Slot.

In Favrskov, you can also explore a model railway where over 80 trains run through both German and Danish landscapes; you can find one of Thomas Dambo’s hidden trolls, Jeppe Væktæppe, or pop into the small local museum, Nielstrup Museum, which is a time capsule from a forgotten Denmark amidst the beautiful countryside around the village of Voldum

The Baroque castle Clausholm Slot near Hadsten

Clausholm Castle and Park near Hadsten is one of Denmark's best-preserved Baroque buildings from the 17th century – surrounded by a historic park, dramatic stories and royal love. The castle was built in the 1690s by Chancellor Conrad Reventlow, and from 1718-1730 it was owned by King Frederik IV who has left his mark on buildings and the park.
