Museums invite you – Week 42 is a treasure trove of autumn experiences for children
In the Aarhus Region, museums go all in when the Danish Autumn break begins in week 42. Children can help make their own paper, carve lanterns, whittle arrows, go on treasure hunts or throw themselves into fun games and creative activities.
During week 42, all schools in Denmark are closed. This means that many families are on autumn holidays, which means that every year there will be a lot of activities for children during this week.
History at child height
Let the children experience the past, see it come to life and enjoy fun and fascinating experiences where they can meet Vikings, hear exciting stories from days gone by and try their hand at history and time through fun activities.
At Moesgaard Museum, you can travel back to the mysteries of the past, meet Vikings and explore archaeological finds. At the Steno Museum, you can explore everything from nature's smallest building blocks – atoms – to the vast, mysterious universe.
At Museum Østjylland, you can explore local history through fun tasks and family activities, at KØN Gender Museum Denmark, children can explore questions of identity and culture through play and interactive activities, and at Museum Silkeborg, you can meet the Tollund Man bog body and rediscover the Iron Age.

Creative fun and art
Art isn't just for looking at – it's for experiencing. And here too, museums have been creative, giving kids a chance to let their imaginations run wild, make their own art, and play in the colourful world of art.
Visit ARoS Aarhus Art Museum, where you can go on an art hunt in the large halls before heading up to the rainbow at the top. At Museum Jorn in Silkeborg, art becomes both colourful and playful, and at Glas - Museum of Glass Art, you can help create your very own art. If you want a slightly different perspective on art, we recommend a visit to Museum Ovartaci or GAIA Museum Outside Art, where you can immerse yourself in art in a wonderful and very special world.
The mysteries of nature and underground adventures
Nature holds many secrets, and during the autumn holidays, children can explore animals, fossils and even adventurous underground passages. Here, knowledge becomes play and real experiences.
If your children love nature and excitement, there is plenty to choose from. At the Natural History Museum, exciting exhibitions await with animals, fossils and nature's secrets. In Mønsted Kalkgruber, the experience becomes adventurous on a trip underground among kilometres of passages and magical flashes of light. And at the Green Museum, you can try your hand at country life – from hunting and fishing to food culture and nature's own raw materials.
