Aarhus is set in a fantastic location right by the water surrounded by stunning natural forests. Being such a compact city, the beaches and forests of Aarhus are easily reached from the city centre. The proximity of the Bay of Aarhus provides you with an abundance of possibilities for any kind of water experience. Explore the newly developed area Aarhus Ø where you will find the iconic building 'Isbjerget' or jump into the sea at the new ‘Harbour Bath’ or at one of the city’s beaches.

To the north of the city, you will find ‘Den Permanente’ beach, where locals love to hang out on a summers’ day and to the south of the city, you will find wonderful beaches at Tangkrogen, Ballehage and Moesgaard, an area that is also great for a walk and a closer look at the popular Infinite Bridge.

Daytrip to the coast or countryside

Enjoy a day trip north of Aarhus and experience the National Park Mols Bjerge where vast glaciers have formed an exceptional landscape perfect for hiking, biking, horse riding and outdoor activities. The traces from the glacial period continues all the way to the dramatic scenery surrounding Hald Sø and Dollerup Bakker near Viborg. Have a walk on the beach, visit the Kalø Castle Ruin or explore the idyllic cobblestone market town Ebeltoft located just by the sea.

Only 30 minutes from Aarhus unfolds the stunning Lake-Highlands between Silkeborg and Skanderborg along Denmark’s longest stream Gudenåen (158 km) and the lakes surrounding one of the highest locations in the country, Himmelbjerget – The Sky Mountain (147 m).

An abundance of possibilities for enjoying nature and doing outdoor activities is waiting for you: mountain biking in some of Denmark’s best trails, kayaking or canoeing on the beautiful lakes or hiking in the spectacular forests.
