A historic church by Brabrand Lake
Brabrand Church is situated close to Brabrand Lake in the western part of Aarhus. The church has a history stretching back more than 800 years and features medieval architecture, historic church furnishings and more recent ecclesiastical art.
From a medieval church to a cruciform church
The oldest parts of Brabrand Church date back to the 13th century. The church has undergone several renovations and acquired its current tower in 1880. In 1924–1925, it was rebuilt into the cruciform church you see today.
Historical furnishings and church art
Inside, you can see the altarpiece from 1595 featuring a painting of Jesus walking on water, as well as a Romanesque baptismal font from the 13th century and a pulpit dating from around 1650.
Also note the gilded Resurrection Cross by the artist Maja Lisa Engelhardt from 2021 and the Romanesque gravestone with a carved cross in the church’s south wall.
