When you jump into the waves or enjoy a dip in one of the many lakes, fjords and coastal beaches in the Aarhus Region, you can do so with peace of mind. The bathing water is monitored continuously throughout the bathing season from 1 June to 1 September, and in several places samples are taken every week. Blue Flag beaches in particular have an extra high level of quality, and information about the condition of the water is clearly signposted at the bathing sites and available digitally.

Here you can swim surrounded by green forests and hilly terrain - but remember to check for algae blooms, especially during hot and rainy periods.

Randers - from fjord to lake

In Randers, bathing opportunities alternate between the rushing fjord waters and the calm lakes. Whether you visit Fussing Sø or enjoy the view at Udbyhøj Strand, you can trust the water quality. The municipality ensures frequent testing and clear signage, and several beaches have been honoured with the Blue Flag - a guarantee of high standards and good hygiene.

Djursland's beautiful coastlines

In both Norddjurs and Syddjurs, high-quality bathing water is a key issue. In Norddjurs, they are actively working to maintain and expand the number of Blue Flag beaches. Viborg - bathing in silence and beauty

Viborg's bathing sites are ideal for those seeking peaceful nature experiences and clean water. A total of 16 locations are monitored, where you can find both lakes and fjord bathing opportunities. Water samples are thoroughly analysed, and factors such as bottom conditions, seaweed and access come into play, so you can swim safely and comfortably - in the middle of nature.

  • Pollution information: In case of heavy rain flooding or algae blooms, warnings are posted - keep an eye on signs and apps.
  • Classification: Bathing water is categorised as excellent, good, satisfactory or poor. The best locations achieve Blue Flag status via stricter criteria.
