Shop opening hours
When do shops open, and are there rules governing their opening and closing times? The answer is no. As a general rule, the Danish Shop Opening Hours Act allows shops to remain open 24 hours a day, all year round. However, there are a few exceptions.

Shop opening hours
Under the Shop Closing Act, all shops must remain closed on public holidays, Constitution Day, Christmas Eve and after 3 pm on New Year’s Eve. However, small grocery shops are exempt and may remain open all year round.
Shops permitted to remain open all year round (including on public holidays)
- Small grocery shops
- Special goods (sale of fuel, plants and flowers, fresh meat and fish, and bread)
- Special locations (shops at petrol stations, in airports, at railway stations, in amusement parks and in holiday home areas)
General opening hours (may vary from place to place)
- Weekdays (Monday to Friday): Typically from 10.00 am to 5.30 pm (7.30 pm)
- Saturdays: typically from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm (5.00 pm)
- Sundays: Many specialist shops are closed, but many supermarkets and shopping centres are open. In larger towns and cities, many specialist shops are open on the first Sunday of the month.
Public holidays and closing days
New Year’s Day, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, Ascension Day, Constitution Day, Whit Sunday, Whit Monday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. New Year’s Eve after 15:00.
