Solve the Curse of Niels Bugge at Hald Lake
At the Five Halds in Viborg, the whole family can go on a treasure hunt in historic surroundings near the ruins of Hald Castle. Here lies the tale of the knight Niels Bugge, who, according to history, was killed in 1358 on the orders of King Valdemar Atterdag. Since then, a curse has hung over Hald, where castle after castle has crumbled to dust.
On the treasure hunt, you must work together to solve the puzzles, gather Niels Bugge’s knights and try to lift the curse from De fem Halder. The experience combines medieval history, play and nature in an area where you get close to both Lake Hald and some of Viborg’s striking historical landmarks.
A family experience with history and mystery
The Niels Bugge’s Curse puzzle hunt has been created as an active experience for children and adults. Along the way, you’ll make your way through the area around De fem Halder, whilst the puzzles lead you into the tale of knights, power struggles and medieval Hald.
Here, the family is told the history of Denmark in a playful way, where everyone can join in cracking codes, solving mysteries and finding the next step on the route.
Walk through nature and medieval landscapes
The route is approximately 3 km long and takes around 2–3 hours. It passes through a hilly area with gravel paths, woodland and footbridges, so the experience is also a walk in the countryside around Hald Lake.
Along the way, De fem Halder forms part of the backdrop. The area contains traces of castles, manor houses and historic sites, and the treasure hunt offers a different way to experience the place for both children and adults.
