Church art by Maja Lisa Engelhardt
In Frederikskirken in Højbjerg, you will find Maja Lisa Engelhardt’s artwork, inspired by B.S. Ingemann’s hymns, particularly ‘Lysets engel går med glans’ (The Angel of Light Walks in Splendour). Admire the seven stained-glass mosaic windows in shades of yellow, blue and red.
By the altar stands a bronze figure of Christ walking on water, gilded with 24-carat gold. The 12 cubes of Bornholm granite on the altar table symbolise the apostles.
A village church from 1944
Frederikskirken resembles a traditional Danish village church, but was consecrated in 1944. The church is also known as the ‘Gift Church’. Much of the furnishings, the church bell and the tower clock were gifts from, amongst others, anonymous donors and the craftsmen who built the church.
