Favrskov – a gem of East Jutland

Favrskov is renowned for its beautiful natural surroundings, its charming communities and its attractive location in the heart of East Jutland. The area lies at the heart of the Aarhus region – right in the sweet spot between Aarhus, Randers and Silkeborg – and combines the best of several worlds: proximity to the culture and urban life of the big cities, whilst offering the tranquillity, nature and community spirit of the smaller towns.

In the beautiful landscape of Favrskov, you can find protected burial mounds from the Stone Age, walk along charming streams and through the protected Alling Ådal valley with its marshes and lakes, which are also home to many different animal and plant species. Here you’ll find forests, meadows and vast agricultural land – and, not least, a romantic Baroque castle from the 12th century: Clausholm Castle.

Favrskov is therefore not just a place you pass through on your way between the larger towns, but an area where many choose to settle. The combination of nature, close-knit local communities, good connections to the larger towns and a strong local identity makes the municipality an attractive place to live – and an ideal place to experience the quieter and more authentic side of East Jutland.

Life by the water

In Favrskov, you can enjoy and make the most of more than 850 km of open waterways, where the Gudenåen and Randers Fjord bring together the sea, waterways, meadows and river valleys.

You are always close by

Whether you’re on foot, by bike or by car, you’re never far from rivers and forests, and plenty of wonderful activities and experiences.

Nature is precisely one of Favrskov’s greatest strengths. The landscape is characterised by rolling fields, forests, river valleys and small villages, which together create a classic East Jutland landscape that invites outdoor activities, cycling and walking. In several places, rivers run through the landscape, including the Gudenå – Denmark’s longest river – which winds its way through the area and contributes to both its natural and cultural history.

The Gudenå Valley also runs through Favrskov at Ulstrup and Granslev Ådal, formed by the Ice Age, which left clear traces in the landscape here. There are over 20 different species of fish in the Gudenå, so there is something for everyone and good chances of landing a big catch.
