The Viborg Lakes

In the centre of Viborg in the Jutland Highlands, you'll find the beautiful Viborg Lakes - Nørresø and Søndersø - surrounded by lush nature and close to city life. Here you'll find a wealth of experiences for young and old alike: cast your line for a quiet fishing trip, enjoy a refreshing dip in the clear water, or take the family on cosy water activities such as kayaking and SUP.

The lakes are an ideal destination for those looking for nature experiences within walking distance of the city centre - perfect for an active and relaxing holiday in Viborg.

The entire 11-kilometre tour around the Viborg Lakes takes you through nature, culture and beautiful views along the way. You can do the whole tour on foot or by bike, or you can shorten it by choosing only one or the other lake. Søndersø is mostly green and calm, Nørresø is more urbanised.

See a map and read more about the tour here.

Fishing and boat hire

You can also go fishing at the Viborg lakes, where you are allowed to fish from the public areas down to the lakes. However, always remember to have your state fishing licence with you. If you want to explore the lakes from the water, you can rent boats at the kiosk at Borgvold by Nørresø.

Please note that there is no special protection for fishing in the Viborg lakes, so the general protection applies.

Read more about the Danish fishing license here.

You can catch many types of fish in the Viborg Lakes.
