Seeing Stars during Aarhus Festival
Experience Aarhus beneath the stars as the light installation Seeing Stars brings Aarhus Festival 2026 to a close. Lights around Musikhusparken are dimmed, allowing the night sky and a shared sense of community to take centre stage.
Experience Seeing Stars in Aarhus
On Sunday 6 September 2026, Aarhus Festival concludes with Seeing Stars, an artwork by Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde. In a central part of Aarhus, street lighting and facade lighting will be switched off, while businesses, institutions and residents are invited to do the same. The aim is to make the starry sky more visible above the city.
Musikhusparken is at the centre of the experience. From here, the lights will be switched off within a radius of 500 metres, bringing landmark buildings such as ARoS, Musikhuset, Ridehuset and Aarhus City Hall into the darkness.
A shared experience beneath the night sky
Seeing Stars is based on the principle “Lights off, stars on” and focuses attention on light pollution, energy consumption and our relationship with nature. As the city reduces its artificial lighting, new space is created to experience the night sky in the heart of Aarhus.
See stars and planets through telescopes
In Musikhusparken, Ole Rømer Observatory and SpaCe - Aarhus Space Centre set up telescopes. Here you can look towards selected stars, planets and other celestial objects and get closer to the night sky in the middle of the city.
