Traditional sailing vessels meet in Aarhus

Nordisk Skudetræf is an annual regatta for traditional sailing vessels from Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The name refers to a Nordic gathering of historic sailing ships. In 2026, the Aarhus Wooden Ships Association hosts the event, bringing crews together for racing and Nordic camaraderie on Aarhus Bay.

From Grenaa to Aarhus Harbour

On 1 July, the vessels sail from Grenaa towards Aarhus. Crews can choose between a longer route south of Samsø covering approximately 80 nautical miles and a direct route north of Samsø covering approximately 37 nautical miles.

After the voyage, the ships arrive at Basin 5 in Aarhus Harbour.

Racing on Aarhus Bay

On 2 July, the programme continues with a longer course race covering between 15 and 30 nautical miles. The ships then anchor overnight near either Kalø Castle Ruins, Knebel Bay or Begtrup Bay. The choice depends on the weather.

On 3 July, the vessels take part in several shorter course races on Aarhus Bay before returning to Basin 5. The programme on shore includes talks and maritime competitions.

Distance racing and harbour manoeuvres

On 4 July, the programme features timed distance racing, harbour manoeuvres under sail and maritime competitions. The day concludes with a celebration dinner and prize-giving ceremony for the participants.

The vessels leave Basin 5 on 5 July. Ships wishing to remain in the city can continue their stay at Aarhus Wooden Ship Harbour.
