Reinterpreting the Tale

Lollike, known for his bold and boundary-pushing style, now turns to the more serious side of Jeppe and asks: Why does Jeppe drink? In Lollike’s fearless version, the answer lies within Jeppe’s fractured mind – a man who is not merely a lazy peasant, but a soul locked in battle with himself.

A power-critical and satirical Jeppe

With Jeppe på Bjerget, the production delivers a sharp critique of power in a satirical performance that makes the audience laugh, reflect, and debate. At its centre stands actor Thure Lindhardt, who brings Jeppe to life in a gripping portrayal. Jeppe’s harsh fate remains unchanged: his wife Nille still beats him, and the Baron and his lackeys continue to drink him under the table – only to amuse themselves with him in their private reality show.

Groundbreaking stage design and visual experience

This production was a highly successful performance staged last year at Aarhus Teater. The visual universe created by David Gehrt and Ida Grarup – whose scenography for Erasmus Montanus was awarded a Reumert Prize – presents Jeppe på Bjerget in a groundbreaking and distinctive design.
