Horse riding route Viborg - Silkeborg
Go on a beautiful horse ride from Viborg to Engesvang and Kragelund near Silkeborg.
The route can be continued all the way to Silkeborg town via Funder, if you wish. The trip mainly follows the Hærvejen road and takes you through some beautiful areas such as Dollerup Bakker and Stendal Plantage.
The route
Start from Viborg and ride along the Alhedestien trail to Hald Ege. Then follow the marked riding trails through Dollerup Bakker. Then follow Hærvejen (marked with a blue sign with a hiker) on to Alheden Skov, which includes the areas of Havredal, Stendal Plantage and Ulvedal Plantage. Alheden Skov has no marked riding routes, but as long as you follow the general rules for riding, you and your horse have free access.
From Ulvedal, continue to Kompedal Plantager and Grathe Hede, which are ideal for horse riding. Then continue through Stenholt Forest towards Engesvang and the picturesque Bølling Lake.
