The Hall of Failure at Kunsthal Aarhus
The Hall of Failure is an exhibition at Kunsthal Aarhus where mistakes are not hidden away, but highlighted as a springboard for new ideas, communities and beginnings. You can see the exhibition unfold across all the art gallery’s galleries and in the park surrounding the building.
An exhibition about failure and the culture of perfection
In The Hall of Failure, you’ll encounter contemporary art that explores our relationship with failure at a time when so much is expected to be optimised, improved and appear perfect. The exhibition takes a critical look at the culture of perfection and shows how failure can also be developmental, formative and create new perspectives.
Here, the focus is not on answer sheets or perfect solutions. Instead, the exhibition invites you into artistic processes where control is relinquished, materials resist, and the unforeseen is given space.
New works created for the exhibition
The exhibition presents newly commissioned works by Anders Bonnesen, Sarah Trahan, Maria Viftrup and FACTORY WORKERS UNITE, comprising Tina Helen and Søren Thilo Funder. All works have been commissioned specifically for the exhibition.
The artists approach failure as more than just a setback. They explore failure as something you can learn from, laugh at, wonder about and perhaps even find courage in.
Part of The Art of Failure
The Hall of Failure is the main exhibition in Kunsthal Aarhus’ programme for 2026. It is also part of the art gallery’s three-year outreach project The Art of Failure, which runs until 2027.
The exhibition creates a space where you can experience failure as part of life – and as a path to change, new insights and greater curiosity.
