A Christmas concert featuring world-class jazz

Kick off the festive season with a concert where warm Christmas melodies meet modern jazz. Gretchen Parlato and the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra invite you to an atmospheric evening at Musikhuset Aarhus, featuring fresh interpretations of well-known Christmas classics and selected songs from Parlato’s own repertoire.

The concert features, amongst other things, jazz versions of classic Christmas songs such as ‘Christmas Time Is Here’ and ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’, arranged for a large big band and Parlato’s distinctive vocals.

Gretchen Parlato

The American singer and composer Gretchen Parlato is one of the most acclaimed jazz vocalists on the international scene. Her music spans modern jazz, Brazilian rhythms, improvisation and global musical traditions.

She made her international breakthrough after winning the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition and has since released several Grammy-nominated albums. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with artists such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Esperanza Spalding and Lionel Loueke.

Aarhus Jazz Orchestra

The Aarhus Jazz Orchestra is an award-winning Danish big band based in Aarhus. The orchestra is renowned for its concerts featuring international soloists and, over the years, has collaborated with a wide range of prominent artists from the international jazz scene.

For this concert, the orchestra is led by conductor Nikolai Bøgelund, who is at the helm of the atmospheric arrangements.
