The Tall Ships Races

Experience four days of maritime festivities when The Tall Ships Races return to Aarhus in June 2026. Climb aboard the world's largest sailing ships, enjoy cultural activities on the quay and be part of a unique harbour experience for the whole family.

One of Aarhus' biggest maritime events

The Tall Ships Races is an international, world-renowned sailing event featuring traditional full-rigged ships (large sailing ships with at least three masts, all of which are rigged with square sails) and other large sailing ships that visit ports in Europe every year. In June 2026, this magnificent public festival will return to Aarhus Harbour, where the harbour area will be buzzing with life, ships and international guests for several days.

Four days of experiences for everyone

  • Impressive sailing ships at the quay with crews from all over the world.
  • Come aboard and learn about the history and sailing of the ships.
  • Activities and atmosphere on the quay with entertainment and maritime culture.
  • A free children's and cultural programme, which is a central part of the festival.

The event is free to attend, and the harbour area will be a lively gathering place for Aarhus residents and visitors from near and far.

International tradition and community

The Tall Ships Races began in 1956 as an idea to bring together training ships from around the world, and the event has a long tradition of promoting friendship, community and learning through sailing training. Aarhus previously hosted the event in 2007, 2013 and 2019 and is now once again welcoming the large ships and their crews to the City of Smiles.
