Silkeborg Church
Silkeborg Church was constructed before 1845 when there were only around 30 people living in Silkeborg. It was only after the paper mill was built that the population increased, and there was a need for a church. After 20 years of work, the church was completed in 1877 and is now an active part of Silkeborg.

Silkeborg Church, built in 1877 in the Romanesque style, stands in the centre of Torvet. The church is an integral part of Silkeborg’s history and has, over the years, been enhanced with several new features, including the distinctive vaults dating from the 1940s. Step inside and enjoy a moment of tranquillity amidst the hustle and bustle of the town.

Inside, you can explore the church’s art and architecture. Take particular note of the beautiful blue altar table by the artist Peter Brandes and the medieval baptismal font. Also note the gilded altarpiece from 1943 and the colourful glass mosaics from 1914.
Hear the carillon ringing out over Silkeborg
As you walk through Silkeborg town centre, you can hear the church’s 49 bells playing melodies across Torvet every day at 8 am, 12 noon, 2 pm, 4 pm and 6 pm. The church also provides a setting for concerts and musical events in its historic interior.
