As Seen Below The Dome, a Skyspace by James Turrell at ARoS Aarhus Art Museum

Look forward to 19 June 2026, when the long-awaited and extraordinary underground installation As Seen Below The Dome – A Skyspace by James Turrell opens. A sensory experience where light and space merge into one.

A sensory and unique experience

At ARoS, Aarhus Art Museum, a truly special art experience awaits: As Seen Below The Dome – A Skyspace by James Turrell. This installation is part of the museum’s permanent art programme and offers a meditative encounter with light, colour, and perception – in harmony with the ever-changing sky.

The Skyspace consists of a circular room with a central, round opening in the ceiling, where both natural and artificial light shape the atmosphere. Here, you can sit down and let yourself be immersed in the shifting sequences of colour that transform your perception of the space and the sky above.

Light art on a global scale

James Turrell is one of the world’s most prominent light artists and has created more than 100 Skyspaces worldwide.

The lighting is programmed to interact with the natural sky, making each visit a unique experience – depending on the weather, time of day, and season. The full sensory effect of As Seen Below unfolds especially at sunrise and sunset.

Part of The Next Level

As Seen Below The Dome is the first part of ARoS’s major expansion project The Next Level, which in the coming years will add even more outstanding art experiences to the museum – both above and below ground.
