Lucia in Randers - a magical procession filled with light and tradition
Enjoy an atmospheric Lucia procession in the heart of Randers, where tradition meets creativity and where light is carried through the streets of the city.
A modern interpretation of Lucia
The Lucia procession is a beautiful Nordic tradition celebrated every year on 13 December. In Randers, we celebrate a little earlier with a procession that stretches through the city centre, led by an impressive Lucia bridge, created by GAIA Academy and artist Britt Kristensen. Participants, including local schoolchildren and volunteers, carry small lanterns as they move through the city wearing Lucia dresses made from recycled materials from Aarhus University Hospital.
An experience for the whole family
The parade starts from Østervold at 10.30am, where it moves through the city streets to Kirketorvet and ends at Den Jyske Hingst at 11.30am. The event spreads light and warmth in the darkness of winter and creates a strong sense of community.
