K7 WEEK in Den Gamle By in Aarhus invites young people (aged 18–27) to enjoy free museum experiences in week 37 – including exciting 70s activities such as collective experiments, music, workshops and a festival-like atmosphere in historic surroundings.
K7 WEEK – culture week for young people
K7 WEEK is a nationwide culture week, which every year in week 37 gives young people access to over 200 museums and cultural institutions throughout Denmark. In Aarhus, you can visit Den Gamle By (The Old Town) completely free of charge – simply by downloading a K7 card.
The initiative is aimed at young people aged 18–27 and combines art, history and performance with an informal and youthful expression. In addition to free museum admission, K7 WEEK also offers heavily discounted tickets to concerts, theatre and classical music.
Move into a 1970s commune
At Den Gamle By, you can not only visit the past – you can move into it. As part of K7 WEEK, Den Gamle By has invited young people to take part in a very special commune experiment, where four young people move into a real 1974 commune for four days.
Here, the participants live as they did in the 70s – without smartphones, but with record players, rotary dial telephones, daily communal meals and conversations at the kitchen table. The collective is part of Den Gamle By's authentic 1970s neighbourhood, and the stay functions as a kind of live performance, where guests can drop by and get a glimpse of life back then.
Workshops, music and a festive atmosphere
Throughout week 37, Den Gamle By will be buzzing with life as courtyards and streets fill with 70s music, pop-up activities, historical characters and a festival-like atmosphere. You can enjoy the jazz band De4Maver playing or bring your own instrument and join the open jam at Jazzbar Bent J, try your hand at creative workshops, or simply take a break in the museum's retro setting.
The museum recreates the atmosphere and colourfulness that characterised everyday life in the 1970s. You can experience hippie homes, nuclear families, retro shops and mopeds – all in streets buzzing with stories and recognisable details from a time when community and culture flourished.
Practical information
K7 WEEK runs from 8 to 14 September 2025 and offers free admission to all young people between the ages of 18 and 27 upon presentation of a K7 card, which can be downloaded online.
