Hasle Church
Hasle Church in Aarhus is built on a site with a very high elevation, and the 16th-century tower has thus often served as a navigation point.

A medieval church on the hill
Hasle Church was built in the middle of the 12th century. The late medieval tower was added later and probably dates from the late 15th century. The church bell dates from 1577, while the porch was built in 1871-72 and extended in 2005.
See the church’s original windows
On the north side of the church and inside the chancel, you can still see two of the building’s original windows. There is also a recess in the south wall of the chancel, where the priest may once have passed bread through an opening to people with leprosy.
Romanesque motifs of good and evil
The church’s stone carvings offer an insight into the medieval world of ideas and beliefs. Lions, dragons, human figures and plant ornaments appear at the entrance, on the chancel arch and around the baptismal font. The motifs may symbolise protection and danger, as well as the struggle between good and evil.
