The Folk High School Route through East Jutland
Experience the authentic folk high school atmosphere on your hike through the East Jutland countryside. An interactive map will guide you to exciting landmarks, where folk high school teachers will tell you about the local areas and inspire reflection and contemplation along the way. At the same time, you can immerse yourself in the intricacies of language in the diversity of the Folk High School Songbook and encounter old proverbs from a time of oral tradition.
29 hiking trails and 14 folk high schools
The Folk High School Route comprises 29 hiking trails, each of which starts and ends at one of the 14 folk high schools in East Jutland.
Between 5 and 50 kilometres
The hiking trails range from short 5-kilometre loops around the folk high schools to stretches of up to 50 kilometres on the longest route. It is possible to walk all or part of the routes, and some routes can also be cycled. The interactive map makes it easy to find your way along the routes and experience the exciting stories along the way.
Tour example: The European Film School
For example, you can explore the exciting district of Ebeltoft and hear stories about the old market town that became a centre for glass art, as well as learn about the town's modern development with a strong volunteer culture. The route is 9 kilometres long and takes you through familiar and unfamiliar parts of the town, with folk high school teachers and locals as your guides.
Tour example: Through the wild and beautiful nature of Søhøjlandet
Between Silkeborg and Ry, you can experience the wild and beautiful nature of Søhøjlandet, as well as hear stories about the Gudenåen river, Asger Jorn, Himmelbjerget and much more, all with a folk high school twist that stimulates reflection and contemplation along the way.
