Den Gamle By and Aarhus Festival - The Old Town Museum

The Old Town Museum and Aarhus Festival bring together history, culture and great experiences in one special week. During Aarhus Festival, you can explore lively streets, see exhibitions and soak up the festive atmosphere in the unique setting of the city museum.

Experience the Festival Week in historic surroundings

When Aarhus Festival Week celebrates its 60th anniversary from 29 August to 7 September 2025, Den Gamle By will of course be there. Here you will encounter music, storytelling and small happenings that unfold the festive atmosphere in the middle of the historic streets and courtyards. You are close to everything – and at the same time to Aarhus' cultural heritage.

Highlights you can look forward to

Join us for a pleasant boat trip on the river, take a ride on the classic air carousel and take part in a fun record attempt at finger knitting. The Festival Week in Den Gamle By offers activities and community for both children and adults. Keep an eye on the area – and go on the hunt for the small details that connect the past and the present.

For the whole family

Den Gamle By is a living museum where you can wander among shops, workshops and homes from different periods. During the Festival Week, the streets are extra lively, and you can explore together, chat with the historical hosts and enjoy the atmosphere in the green courtyards.

Close to the city's other festivities

The museum is within walking distance of the city centre and several of the Festival Week's stages and venues. Use Den Gamle By as a quiet respite between concerts and events – or start your day here and continue on into the city.
