Christmas service and Christmas celebrations as in 1918 at Gammel Estrup

Step into the magic of Christmas at Gammel Estrup Manor Museum and experience an authentic Christmas celebration as it was over a hundred years ago.

The historic manor opens its doors to an atmospheric day of traditions, singing and dancing around the decorated Christmas tree.

Turn back time

Gammel Estrup Manor Museum provides the setting for a very special Christmas experience on 21 December. Time is turned back to 1918, when Christmas services and celebrations at the manor brought together both the gentry and the servants.

The day begins in the atmospheric chapel, where the Christmas service is held in historic surroundings. The celebration then continues in the Knights' Hall, where the Christmas tree shines brightly and people dance around it – just as they did when the last count lived at the manor house. An experience that brings the Christmas traditions of the past to life and gives guests a rare insight into manor life during the festive season.

Practical information

The Christmas service begins at 1 p.m. in the chapel. Separate tickets for the service are available from the museum shop on the day on a first-come, first-served basis. The Christmas service will also be streamed on a screen in the coffee room in the basement.

The Christmas celebrations begin at 3 p.m. in the Knights' Hall, but you can meet both the count's family and the servants from 2 p.m. No ticket is required to participate in the Christmas celebrations in the Knights' Hall.
