Borgvold and the Bible Garden in Viborg

Borgvold and Bibelhaven in Viborg are a green oasis with historical depth and beautiful gardens – perfect for a peaceful stroll in the heart of the city.

Historic surroundings and green breaks in Viborg

In the middle of Viborg lies Borgvold – a historic fortification transformed into a peaceful park. Here you will find lush vegetation, winding paths, a playground, a lake and a unique biblical garden with symbols and flowers from both the Old and New Testaments.

From fortress to park

Borgvold was built in the mid-1800s on the remains of the city's old defences. Since then, the park has been a green haven for both the city's residents and visitors. Here you can walk along the moat, enjoy the sight of old trees and follow the paths that wind through the English-inspired park.

The Bible Garden – a special experience

At Borgvold, you will also find the Bible Garden – an atmospheric garden with plants that all have their roots in the stories of the Bible. The garden is divided into thematic beds and contains over 100 different species. The plants are labelled with names and Bible quotes, allowing you to explore both nature and Christian cultural heritage.

For the whole family

The park invites both contemplation and play. There is a playground, rowing boats for hire on Søndersø in the summer months, and plenty of space for a picnic blanket. There are also several benches and cosy corners where you can enjoy the peace and quiet close to the city centre.

Practical information

The park is free to enter all year round and is within walking distance of Viborg's historic city centre. There is parking available in the area and toilet facilities close to the playground. In summer, you can hire rowing boats by the lake.
