Albøge Church
Albøge Church is situated high up in Norddjurs, overlooking a valley that was once an inlet of Kolindsund. Come and explore a church with roots dating back to the 12th century and historical treasures spanning several centuries.

A church from the 12th century
Albøge Church was built as a Romanesque church in the 12th century and later converted into a Gothic longhouse. In the outer walls, you can see traces of the original church, including reused granite blocks and bricked-up doorways.
Historical artefacts
The church houses several historical treasures. The Romanesque baptismal font, dating from around 1200, is adorned with lion figures, and the altarpiece from 1698 is in the High Renaissance style.
On the altar lies Christian III’s Bible from 1550. It is the first complete translation of the Bible into Danish, and it has been kept in the church for almost half a millennium.
Frescoes and restoration
During the restoration in 1990, the decorations on the ribs of the vaults and the seven processional crosses were brought to light. The altarpiece and the pulpit also had their original images and inscriptions restored.
