A modern village church
Lystrup Church stands high on undulating ground overlooking Aarhus Bay. The church was designed as a modern interpretation of the Danish medieval church, with whitewashed walls, a red tiled roof and striking upward-reaching lines.
The church was designed by Anders Bové Christensen and Kaj Mikkelsen of the architectural firm Regnbuen in Aarhus. It was consecrated in 1989 and won an award the following year.
Space, art and organ
Inside the church, columns, diagonal lines and light create a vibrant worship space, with the central aisle leading towards the altar. The church has 90 fixed seats and can be expanded with additional chairs.
The altar decoration was created by Hans Berg, whilst Ole Hempel designed the baptismal font in blue Rønne granite. The organ was built by Th. Frobenius & Sons and has 21 stops.
