Hesitation of Light

Hesitation of Light is an exhibition of light created by Signe Klejs, who will light up the iconic bridge, Ringgadebroen, turning it into an illuminated city gate. See the beautiful sight when hundreds of lights intertwine with the glowing sunset and light up the old bridge in the twilight.

Ringgadebroen is visible from the train station, the ARoSAarhus Art Museum, City Hall and Concert Hall Aarhus.

An Illuminated City Gate – Ringgadebroen

This work of art consists of 200 lamps lighting up the 450 metres long bridge by the use of cameras that register the colours of the sky as the sun is setting. Thereby, each night’s light setting is an echo of nature’s own colours, projected onto the concrete of the old bridge.

Hesitation of Light

Hesitation of Light is a title that is inspired by Aarhus’ very own world-renowned astronomer, Ole Rømer, who in 1675 proved that light actually travels. Klejs' work of art on Ringgadebroen captures the light of the sky, reproduces it and allows it to hesitate by projecting it onto the bridge, that rises as a glowing welcome to the city of Aarhus.

Part Of Aarhus – European Capital Of Culture 2017

Hesitation of Light has been created as part of Aarhus – European Capital of Culture 2017. The light installation creates an illuminated gateway to the art and culture productions at a different event venue, Godsbanen. Hesitation of Light will embellish Ringgadebroen in January 2023.
