Aarhus is a dynamic city on the Jutland peninsula in Denmark. From here, beach, harbour and forest are all within reach of a 15-minute bike ride. 315.000 people live in Aarhus and 1,2 million people live in the greater Aarhus Area.
 
Think of Aarhus as a major city crammed into a mega village. Being a university city, Aarhus is the youngest in Denmark measured by average age, but historically one of the oldest. Thus, the atmosphere is a vibrant mix of youthful energy and blasts from the past.

Each year, the higher educational institutions in Aarhus attract more and more young people to the city. Aarhus has the highest concentration of students in Denmark and a lively study environment as many of the educational institutions are located in central Aarhus.

Aarhus is known as the Capital of Wind Energy – and with good reason: Nowhere else in the world will you find a similar concentration of companies covering the entire value chain within wind turbine design, development and production.

 Greater Aarhus has one of Europe’s highest concentrations of specialist businesses within food manufacturing, from farmers and food manufacturers to global cooperatives and gastronomy.

 And - The Port of Aarhus is Denmark’s international port. In recent years the port has strengthened its position as Denmark’s largest container port. The size of the port also allows big cruise ships to visit Aarhus.

The area will be strengthened over the years with the inaguration of Navitas Park – Denmark’s leading innovation, education and research environment for energy and energy technology.

Rethink 2017

Aarhus is the European Capital of Culture in 2017 and will host appoximately 300 unique cultural events from 2013-2017.


The 2017 Capital of Culture is a collaboration between all 19 municipalities in Central Denmark Region in order to attract activities and events that will strengthen the entire region.

Aarhus is the European Capital of Culture in 2017. Aarhus's project, which has the theme RETHINK, is supported politically and economically by Central Region Denmark and the 19 municipalities of the region.
