On bike in and around Aarhus

On bike in and around Aarhus

Aarhus is a great city for cycling. Its many cycle paths, the relative flatness of the surroundings, the short distances and the many green open spaces make the city perfect for cycling.

The streets in central Aarhus are all pedestrianised streets and you have to park your bike before you go shopping or visit one of the many cafés. A bicycle is particularly handy when travelling in from the outskirts to the city centre.

From the youth hostel / the Get In half-price hotel you can cycle along the Ringgaden circular road and visit the Botanical Gardens and the Old Town. If you continue further south you will reach the Brabrandstien cycle path which will take you around the Brabrand Lake - a wonderful experience at any time of the year. If you continue along the Ringgaden you will reach Tivoli Friheden, the NRGi Park and the Memorial Park where you also have the Marselisborg Palace.

From here you can take the cycle path through the Marselisborg woods where you can stop for a break at the Deer Park, the Ballehage beach or at the Ørnereden refreshment kiosk. You can then carry on to the Moesgård Museum or all the way out to the Moesgård beach.

If you return through the woods past the Helnan Marselis Hotel, you can carry on along the coast, past the harbour and then on to the old cycle path to the Risskov area. This cycle path was officially opened at the beginning of the 20th century and for the first few years you had to pay a quarter of a krone to be allowed to cycle on it. Along this path you arrive in Risskov from where you can continue on to the Egå Marina, Skæring and the Kaløvig Boat Harbour.
