Aarhus, European Capital of Culture 2017

In 2017, Aarhus was the European Capital of Culture, and the year contained an endless list of cultural experiences, events and exciting new partnerships between cultures, cities and people. Many of these initiatives go beyond the year of the prestigious status as the European Capital of Culture, and the rapid development of Aarhus continues – within gastronomy, culture and urban development and so much more. The established cultural scenes are constantly developing and offer world-class exhibitions and shows.

There is no doubt that the past year as European Capital of Culture has had a strong and inspirational impact on the city’s development. From the city’s waterfront area to the house of culture and multimedia, DOKK1, from the new quarter, Aarhus Ø with the architectonic landmark of the “Iceberg”, city gardens and the harbour bath to the city’s historic, narrow streets you cannot help but feel the energy and the buzz surrounding you.

In every part of the city, you can sense, that the cultural life blooms in Aarhus; vibrant food markets, an innovative scene constantly developing, a shopping Mecca which caters to your every wish and need, forests, beaches, peaceful green spots around town and new, impressive venues that allow you to experience Aarhus from new angles – you cannot miss the spirit of Aarhus.
