Within walking distance
In Aarhus everything is nearby even though Aarhus is the second largest city in Denmark. Everything is within walking distance and you can walk from one museum to another, go shopping and enjoy the city’s many cafés. In the afternoon you can also take a walk in the woods or along the sandy beaches near to the city.
Latin Quarter
The Latin Quarter is the oldest part of Aarhus with small streets and old houses and a lot of shops, cafés and galleries. The streets have historical names such as Klostergade (Convent St), Volden (The Rampart) and Borggade (Castle St) – and in the centre of the quarter lies the Pustervig Torv square as a small and cozy oasis, perfect for a break. |

|
Centre of art and culture
Enjoy a visit to the open air museum Den Gamle By (The Old Town) in the center of the city. Here you simply step right into life as it was in a Danish provincial town in the days of H. C. Andersen. Less than 10 min. away lies ARoS the main art museum and a fascinating museum for both adults and children. Most exciting is the five meters high statue ‘BOY’. He is true-to-life and perhaps also a bit scary.
There are also many fascinating exhibitions at the other museums in the city, such as The Women's Museum, The Steno Museum (the museum of science and medicine), The Natural History Museum and the Aarhus Urban Museum. And furthermore you can see interesting buildings, Churches, Castles and much more. |
|
15 min. by bus
Moesgård Museum in the woods south of Aarhus tells you the history of Aarhus during the Viking age – and also the history that preceded them.
Here you can also see the extremely well preserved peat-bog corpse of the 2000-year-old Grauballe Man from the Iron Age -suddenly not without feeling a shiver run down your back.
Woods and beaches
Aarhus is situated on the coast, with woodlands to the north and south, and green areas and parks spread liberally throughout the central areas and outskirts of the city.
Along the woods are beaches typical of the Jutland east coast - idyllically situated close to woodlands and built-up areas, easily accessible with excellent parking and with calm waters perfect for families with children. |
