Wooden sculptures

In the woods south of Århus you can enjoy a rather unique experience of art and nature.

You can find sculptures here made from trees most of which are still rooted deeply in the East Jutland soil. Sculptures which change their expression with the weather and the time of the year and which, as they decay, enter into the nature's cycle.
The sculptures were specially created in the 1990's by the Århus artist Jørn Rønnau for selected locations in and around the Marselisborg woods. Many of them are hidden quite well - meaning that you have to go hunting for them to find them. Some are decaying massively while others have disappeared altogether. But it is well worth the effort to seek out the fine sculptures which are still remaining.

The following are examples of sculptures of particular artistic interest:
The VENNELYST ALFABET (The Vennelyst Alphabet) by Nørreport.
The PORTEN (The Gate) near Tangkrogen.
Three works by the Marselisborg Palace.
The FUGLEN (The Bird) near Blommehaven.
The SNEGLEN (The Snail) near Ørnereden.
The TANDEN (The Tooth) near the Fløjstrup Skov wood.

There are still some 20 sculptural trees you can enjoy in the Marselisborg woods and other places in Århus.
