Had enough of shopping and feel like getting out into nature to either relax or go for a walk, run or bike ride? In that case, Aarhus is the right place to go, because no matter where you are in the city, nature is never far away.
Within the city itself you will find the parks: the
Mølleparken by the Aarhus River,
The Botanical Gardens at Den Gamle By (The Old Town), and the
Universitetsparken university park – and a bit further to the south by the Marselisborg Palace lies the
Marselisborg Memorial Park. What these parks have in common is that they are all perfect for a stroll, or a picnic with your girlfriend or boyfriend, or, indeed, any friends.
If you like animals, you should definitely pay a visit to the
The Deer Park. Here, sikas and fallow deer happily wander around with you in the large enclosure, and there are also wild boars living in their own enclosure.
If you feel like burning off a little more energy, you could perhaps go for a run in the
Riis Skov woods or in one of the many other local woods. In addition to this there are a lot of nature walks such as the
Oldtidsstien ancient path at Moesgård Museum and the paths that lead around the lakes of
Brabrand Sø,
Aarslev Engsø, Egå Engsø, and along the Egå river. Some of these paths are also great for bike rides.
If you need a bit more speed and challenge, the mountain bike track in the Marselisborg / Moesgård woods is the place to go! This track is very popular and is used every day by a large number of mountain bike riders. The track runs primarily west of Ørneredevej, south of the city centre, and is 23.8 km in all, so hop on your bike and get going!
