Do you like different and interesting art, and do you like to be provoked and perhaps even a bit frightened? In that case you should pay a visit to the ARoS Aarhus Art Museum and go down to the cellar where you will find The 9 Spaces. The Nine Spaces, which are part of the museum’s contemporary art collection, form a so-called gallery in progress, reserved to leading artists working in the new mediums of light, sound and video, and the intention is to have one or two new exhibitions every year. With their magical and spectacular imagery, the Nine Spaces simply captivate the viewer, offering an art experience truly out of the ordinary. The number of spaces (or rooms) refers to the divine comedy by Dante, where the main character makes a journey through the nine circles in the land of the dead: from Hell, he ascends the Mountain of Purgatory and further up to the divine light in Heaven. This is reflected in the interior design of the museum: from The Nine Spaces and the dark and sinister atmosphere in the cellar of ARoS, you ascend to the broad daylight at the roof terrace, and, not least, the stunning view of the city.
