The beaches in Aarhus

If you visit Aarhus in the summertime and the weather is good, a visit to the beach is a no-brainer. The city stretches along the Aarhus Bay, which leaves you with plenty of options. There are beaches for all types, whether you just want to bask in the sun or go crazy on the beach volley court or a surfboard.

One of the many beaches in AarhusIf you visit Aarhus in the summertime and the weather is good, you should definitely pay a visit to one of Aarhus’ beaches. There are several to choose from:

If you are the type of person who loves to bask in the sun for hours and then go for the occasional dip in the water to cool down, the Bellevue,
the Den Permanente, and the Ballehage beaches are just right for you.
Bellevue is a wonderful sandy beach with very few stones and no less than two bathing jetties, a refreshment kiosk, toilet facilities, and a car park.
The ‘Den Permanente’ is by far the most popular beach with young people in Aarhus, and it is only a 10-minute bike ride from the city centre! Here you will find lifeguards during the summer, changing rooms, toilet facilities, and a refreshment kiosk. Outside the area of the bathing club there are barbeques and places for bonfires, and this is frequently used by lots of young people from the city in the beautiful, bright summer nights.
If you like beaches that are less crowded, you should go to ‘Ballehage’. It is a lovely beach, surrounded by woods, with a great sandy bottom and a bathing jetty. You have to look fairly closely for the beach in order to find it, and because of this you may sometimes be able to have it all to yourself!

Beach volley ball in AarhusIf you are the type of person who cannot just lie in the sun all day but needs to be active as well, you should go to either the beach at
Moesgård Strand or the Åkrogen beach.
The beach at Moesgård is surrounded by woods and hills, but there are also large grassy areas that just seem to invite you to use them for all sorts of games and fun, including out-door volleyball. In addition to this you will also find a lifeguard in the summertime, a refreshment kiosk, toilet facilities, barbeques, and a large car park.
The beach at Åkrogen is a small paradise for surfers, so if you are good at this sport, you should certainly go there. The area, however, is also well suited for swimming, playing ball games, kite flying; anything you can come up with. Bonus info: the Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail has elected Åkrogen the seventh best beach in the world!
