Being a young tourist in Aarhus, you may not have that much money, but do not despair: Aarhus has lots of free or inexpensive experiences to offer.
If, for example, you feel like going to the theatre, the
Aarhus Teater offers tickets at half price to students, and in addition to this there is half price for everyone on Mondays. A lot of museums also give student discounts, including
Moesgård Museum and the
ARoS Aarhus Art Museum, and the
Vikingemuseet (the Viking Museum) is completely free of charge.
If you visit Aarhus in the wintertime, a trip to the atmospheric out-door skating rink would be an obvious choice. The skating rink itself is free of charge, and if you don’t own a pair of skates yourself, you can rent a pair for only DKK 40.
If, on the contrary, you visit the city on a warm and sunny summer’s day, you probably feel like cooling down a bit, and an easy and free place to do this is at one of Aarhus’ many excellent
beaches.

Indeed, the world of nature is a lovely and, of course, free place to spend your free time, and with its many
parks,
woods, and
lakes, etc., Aarhus is simply perfect in this sense. Furthermore, you don’t have to worry about transportation costs, because when you go to the natural areas closest to the city centre, you can simply borrow one of the
free city bikes.
Our tips for cheap places to eat in and go out to include Café Grene and pAKHUSET. The cosy Café Grene, which is situated within the ‘Søstrene Grene’ shop, serves tasty, organic dishes at extremely favourable prices, and at pAKHUSET beer is served at student-friendly prices. Here, admission is free, except for larger events and concerts, where you pay a token entrance fee.
A good tip, if you need a bit of self-indulgence, but perhaps don’t have a lot of money to spend on yourself, is the cosmetologist school Art of International Training. Here you get superb beauty culture for very little money.
If you plan to spend the night in Aarhus, but don’t know anyone with an extra bed, Aarhus has plenty of opportunities in this regard also: you could, for example, choose one of the city’s
camping grounds or
hostels, and if you enjoy nature, you could also choose to camp in one of the region’s 10 hiking shelters.
Last, but not least, if you buy the
AarhusCard you get discounts from a large number of the city’s attractions, eating places, etc.
