In the old days

Get close-up to a time before the invention of the mobile phone and the computer, and when only boys were allowed into secondary school.

At school with Granny
What did Granny learn at school when she was a child, and what did she do in her spare time? See what it was like to live and work in Denmark in the old days at Den Gamle By (The Old Town).
Experience the Vikings!
Go back in time to when Århus was founded during the Viking Age. There are still traces of the people who chose to settle by the mouth of the Århus River.
At the Moesgård Museum you can experience the Grauballe Man – a peat bog corpse from the Iron Age. You can also experience some of the many other fascinating exhibitions, and in the school holidays there are lots of exciting events for children.
If you would like to know more about art and experience art in a somewhat different way, the Juniors’ Museum at ARoS is the place to go.
Here you, and your parents or friends, can explore the strange and fascinating world of art by means of some small and creative assignments.
Get a rather different experience of art. At the Aarhus Art Building there are exhibitions and activities both for you and with you.
You can try what it was like to be a girl in the city during the 1930s, or a boy in the country in the 1870s in Denmark. You can try on the children’s clothes, walk into an old city backyard, lie down on a cloud, or listen to some of the fun and embarrassing stories which the girls and boys never told their parents. Discover the childhood stories which the dress, the goose and the roller skates have to tell – about Irma, Carl, Ejnar, Lotte and many other children at the Womens Museum in Århus.
At the Steno Danish Museum for the History of Science and Medicine you can take part yourself. Here you can fill the room with thunder and lightening, or you can look at yourself in funny mirrors.
Look at the many stuffed animals, or join in at one of the functioning workshops for children at The Natural History Museum. You can also play a game about dangerous animals, or read about this week’s natural history.
