Yuletide under the stars!
… when you wish upon a star, your dreams come true – at least when you are in Aarhus in the run up to Christmas. The entire city is alive with a vibrant Christmas atmosphere with all sorts of things to do and see for both adults and children.
Christmas holds a special place in the hearts of Danes, especially in the lovely city of Aarhus, East Jutland. Each year the city comes alive with Christmas spirit.
Christmas in The Old Town The magic at the open air museum "Den Gamle By" begins on November 19, when the living history market town of more than 75 restored vintage buildings puts on its holiday finery. In each room, visitors step directly into a world gone by, with all the details in place.
The Christmas exhibition is comprised of more than 30 large and small exhibitions distributed among the historical buildings of Den Gamle By (The Old Town).
It is a cavalcade of scenes from different periods beginning with the renaissance parlour of the wealthy merchant grocer in 1625, through the 19th century and the first Christmas trees, concluding in the living room of the modern family in 1929, with both an Advent wreath and a Christmas tree decorated with angel hair and electric fairy lights.
Your rainbow panorama on the roof of ARoS Enjoy now the spectacular artwork made of the Danish/Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson on the top of ARoS. You have here access to the rooftop project's circular, large glass walkway, measuring 52 metres in diameter and formed in the colour spectrum.
From here you can move around in a 150 metre long, circular panoramic path with 360º views of the surrounding city. Your rainbow panorama also ensures full accessibility for those with impaired mobility.
Christmas Shopping i Aarhus Jutland's Shopping City no. 1 The capital of Jutland is shimmering with warmth, cosiness and the merry old spirit of Christmas.
The wonderfully decorated streets are framed in lights, and in the city’s many specialist shops and department stores you can find everything your heart could desire, from Christmas presents, clothing for festive and party occasions, decorations, and delicacies for young and old alike.
The Christmas tree will be lit at the Town Hall Square Friday, November 25th – at 7.30pm
Experience the Danish Christmas traditions Danes love Christmas, and "The Festival of the Hearts" as it is called, is more eventful in Denmark than any other holiday associated with traditions.
