A large and wonderful Christmas Parade led by Santa Claus will pass through the city, the Christmas lighting will be switched on, and all the shops in the city will be open for Christmas shopping right through to midnight.

150th anniversary at ARoSThe Aarhus Art Museum opened to the public in 1859 and will therefore celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2009.

In Aarhus, we are looking forward to hosting the 2009 European Veterans Athletics Championships Non Stadia. For this event the beautiful natural surroundings at the Brabrand Lake and in the Marselisborg Memorial Park will provide the perfect sporting setting for the veteran athletes as they compete to become European Champion in the various Non Stadia disciplines.

Live Pictures of the World in the Århus city centre
'Live Pictures of the World' - an annually recurring festival in the city centre of Århus. Throughout the city, music will be the focal point on 4th June 2009. On this day the city of Århus will lay on the show-stopping event Live Pictures of the World 2009. The entire city will be transformed to depict the theme of the year, and all the shops will be open right through to midnight.

Sculpture by the Sea (DIALOG09)
A spectacular and free outdoor exhibition of sculpture along the Bay of Århus. This is an international exhibition in Århus with contributions from around the world. 50 sculptures of different sizes, colours and materials will be positioned on the waterfront all the way from 'Tangkrogen', along the beach, and right on to the edge of the woods at Ballehage beach. Inspired by and under the patronage of TRH Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, the world-famous sculpture festival 'Sculpture by the Sea' will take place for the first time outside Australia – from 5th to 28th June, the coastline from the 'Tangkrogen' to Ballehage beach will feature over 50 sculptures by artists from Australia and all over the world.

Medieval market
At a medieval market there’s always plenty to do. The market place is filled with stalls and booths where you can meet craftsmen at work, get an insight into life as it was in medieval times, and make good bargains. At this market you can experience demonstrations of medieval fighting, medieval music, and jesters. You can go exploring the trade stalls, get up close to the craftsmen, attend a soldiers' training school, meet a knight, and sample medieval food, mead and beer. For the children there are lots of medieval fun and games for boys as well as girls.

Aarhus International Jazz Festival
In July the 21th edition of the Aarhus International Jazz Festival will raise the curtain on a varied offering of jazz bands big and small and orchestras playing all genres of jazz.

Football Festival Denmark
Some 150 teams from countries all over the world will take part in this footballing extravaganza in Aarhus. From morning till evening the green pitches at the various event venues will be filled with football-playing, enthusiastic children and teenagers aged from 8 to 19.

The Moesgård Viking Moot
Meet the Vikings in their everyday-life at the large Viking Moot which is held by the Moesgård Museum at the beach in Moesgård every year during the last weekend of July.

Africa Now - West African culture week in Århus
In partnership with the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and under the patronage of the Danish Foreign Minister and Senegalese musician and activist Youssou N'Dour, the West Africa festival will be a key element in DIALOG09.

The Aarhus Festival is a thematic event and the theme of the year determines the artistic programme. The programme encompasses various forms of art such as dance, theatre, exhibitions, opera, sports, children's entertainment and a varied offering of music.

The Aarhus Night of Culture Århus hopes to throw radiance on all facets of cultural life in Århus. This includes high culture and popular culture, church culture, and business culture; children’s culture, youth culture and senior culture; ethnic culture, academic culture, sports culture, and up-till-now hidden subcultures.

Coast Zones Adventure Race
High-speed physical action. The Århus CoastZone Challenge will take place in the streets and lanes of Århus for the second time – a "mini-adventure race" for everyone! You can enrol for the Elite Distance or the Adventure Distance.

KiC
KiC is the largest censored fair for crafts and arts in Denmark. The fair is a returning event since 2005, and it takes place every year around the beginning of November.

World Standard Championships
In 2006 Århus hosted the World Standard Championships, and this event was so successful that the International Dance Sport Federation has chosen Århus as host venue for these Championships again in 2009. Fifty of the world's best Standard dancers, and 4000 spectators, are expected for this event.
